Odds and Ends

So I'll start off by talking about a few odds and ends I keep forgetting to mention.

1. As some of you know mosquitos love me. Well they also love me in Germany. Crap!
2. The curls are thriving, and love all of this humidity.
3. Around the village I am known just as 'the Canadian' Haha
4. I remembered everything, but an adapter. So I've had to limit how much I listen to my music. Luckily my parents are sending me one, because I can't find one here.
5. The belt and little purse I got from Edit have been so useful and environmentally friendly. If you haven't been to Edit and you live in Lethbridge, go!
6. Movies are so helpful when learning a new language. I've watched a few movies with German voices in the background and English subtitles. SOOOO helpful.
7. I wish my life in Germany had English subtitles. lol (I find I pick up more German and remember it when I watch German movies with subtitles.)

Differences I've noticed so far in Germany:

1. Carbonated water is more common to drink than still water. (The carbonated water also has a bit of a bitter taste.) I'm still trying to get use to it. When my family went to France I had some and I almost threw up. I couldn't eat lunch that day I felt so nauseas. So far I haven't felt that sick, but my stomach still has to get use to it.
2. Guys hear whistle a lot. I don't mean cat call whistling, but just random whistling to a song or something. As if to prove my point I just heard Jonas whistling in the hall.
3. Ice cream is much softer and there are way more flavours.
4. I've been eating a lot of bread. No black rye bread yet, but the bread here is different. The pieces are small and quite heavy.
5. Cheese and meat are common for breakfast.
6. I've ridden in more convertibles here than I have in Canada.
7. Apple juice is extremely popular. If you aren't drinking water than you are drinking a glass half filled with apple juice and topped off with carbonated water.
8. The windows are very different. There is this handle that you can turn 3 ways. Depending on how you turn it depends on how the window opens!
9. Architecture is quite different. Many half timbered houses.
10. Tons of solar pannels. They are literally everywhere. There is a solar panel farm in Oberellenbach. There are multiple solar panels on many roofs in Oberellenbach too.
11. Toliettes are different too.

Surprises:

1. The German language sounds much softer than I expected. When people talk normally it doesn't sound harsh at all.
2. Many people speak incredible English. Now I know why, so I will talk about that in another post.
