Bruised and Sore!!

So, my hands and wrists are pretty bruised from volleyball. They are less tender than yesterday, but OWWWWW. I'm not cut out to be a volleyball player!! It was fun though, so I can see more bruises in my future. Haha, I guess I just have to toughen up a bit.

I slept SOOOO good after playing volleyball. I woke up to the clang of the church bells. The church bells ring every 15 minutes, but they don't ring from 10 pm to 6 am. THANK GOODNESS. Well I thought I had woken up to the church bells at 6 am and I was thinking Oh this is not happening. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at my watch and saw it was 10 AM. I had slept like a stone since 11 PM. Maybe the bruises are worth sleeping through the night! LOL

I had some breakfast and Stephan told me that there was a big village beach volleyball tournament. Stephan and Jonas were on a team so we got there and they started to play. Of course I didn't know anyone, so it felt a bit strange being there. It was fun to watch the volleyball, but I was relieved when Stephan and Jonas were finished.

There were a couple of times when I was by myself there that I just wanted to melt into the ground. The first thing was there was this guy that kept looking over at me, and we made eye contact a few times. Then he started to come over to the table where I was at. I just about died....I was looking straight ahead at the game. He sat down across from me and went through his bag and then left. He didn't say anything and I'm not sure if he was going to. I was so embarrassed. I felt bad, but I wasn't sure what else to do... There were a couple of other things like that, but those moments are over now. So it's okay.

A girl from Rotenburg an der Fulda is going to Calgary with Rotary. She leaves this Thursday. Her family is my second host family. I've mentioned her before. She had a goodbye party and she wanted me to come. So I went and we had a good time. We had a picnic, played some games, watched a movie, and went canoeing. I'm feeling the canoeing today! LOL My shoulders and butt hurt.

I came back to Oberellenbach (this is the name of the little village I'm in) and Stephan took me to the village party for the volleyball tournament. If you Wikipedia this village, there is apparently a page that talks about how it doesn't exist. It does, promise promise!

Today I visited a castle and just hung out with my host family. I will be starting school on Tuesday. Gosh I'm scared...it'll all work out, but my German needs a lot of work. I've got a pretty massive dictionary to help me out and an excellent phrase book. THANKS TANNIS! It is sooooo useful. Reality is setting in now that I'm going to be gone for a long time. I'm trying really hard not to think about that.

This is a bit random, but I find myself comparing how people look or act to celebrities. I think I'm doing this instead of comparing them them to people I know, because that would make it hard. I think I'm trying to find familiarity, so I find comfort out of these comparisons.

Overall I'm OK, a bit beat up, but this too shall pass. Thanks for the comments =) I miss all of you a lot. Pictures will come soon. I took some nice ones of the village today, but I'm dead tired so I'll take care of that later.

Love the blog Marita - it'll be nice to be able to "catch up" with you this way. Take care and try not to play too much volleyball right away - if you play once every few days the bruises go away - I promise :)

Keep up the volleyball and you'll be able to whip your dad when you get home. Sounds like you are being well taken care of and that brothers can be handy things to have around! Will look forward to hearing about the meals in your days ahead.

Marita:
I'm passing your blog site to the whole rotary club for them to monitor your experiences and to write comments. I was talking to Katie who came back from Belgium and for the first month, everyone wanted to practice their English on her, and that was one regret she had.... that she didn't insist on everyone speaking french to her. Just a piece of advice... I'm excited for you. Have fun, and call on me if you need anything from this end....
