The German Boa!

Guten Nacht (Good evening)! It is me! I managed to stay awake or the first day, after I wrote my post. I actually managed to stay up until 10 pm. Go me! Then I slept until 1 pm the next day. There were a few interuptions like the dog, the church bells, and Jonas trying to shut up Anton. Overall though, it was much needed rest.

I didn't mention my host family in the last blog will talk a little about them now. I was picked up by both of my host brothers at the airport. They found me right away--thank goodness! Their mother, Marion, made a sign for them, but they didn't use it. However, Stephan had looked at the pictures I sent with my application, so he knewwhat I looked like. The greeting at the airport was warm. Both of them hugged me, which was a suprise. I wasn't expecting that, but it was nice. Stephan is 23 and speaks perfect English. He is always suprising me, because he knows English so well and is able to speak and understand more complicated phrases. He is very friendly. He is so funny, we get along really well.

Jonas is my age, and his English is also quite good. We talk some, but Stephan and I tend to have more to talk about together. Jonas is also quite kind, and drives me everywhere. I have to say, though that it is quite strange having brothers. I'm still not quite use to it. So far we are getting along just fine.

My host parents are quite nice too. Their names are Marion and Lutz. I have a hard time pronouncing Lutz in German. lol. Believe me it is more difficult to say than it looks! We are speaking English with a bit of German for the first little while so we can get to know each other. We have now started speaking more German. Lutz thought we should stick sticky notes all around the house so we did that. I feel very much like a child here. I do understand some German, but not alot. So not only do I feel inteluctually like a child, but I also have to completely trust them for everything. It is a weird feeling especially since I will be considered an adult in September. Very strange...

I met Marie, who would be my host sister, but she is going to Calgary on a Rotary exchange next Thursday. Both Marie and her mother are sweethearts. I met them yesterday at their home, just to talk and they took me to another village near here for the day today. It was quite fun.

I came home to Lasagna courtesy of Stephan. (He is a good cook.) I'm less nervous that I will gain weight here. This is a huge relief. I was quite nervous about that. Then we went out and played beach Volleyball. They have a sandpit in this village where they have set up a net. It is quite nice. But as most of you know, I am not really into sports. I played though. I'm quite sore! Volleyball HURTS! I played with Stephan and a friend of Jonas' named Thomas. Thomas was also quite good to me, but he was nervous speaking English. He was very encouraging even though I'm very bad at volleyball. They both made me laugh a lot. We played against some local girls who were fun.

I understood some of the German and they were all quite funny so I lauged alot. My face hurts from laughing and smiling. My arms, wrists, and fingers hurt from volleyball. I didn't sleep very well last night, so I'm getting tired. I hope this little volleyball excursion helps me sleep.

I will now explain my little title. When we were driving to the other little village there was a man on a motorcycle in front of us. On the back of this motorcycle was a feather boa with the colours of the German Flag. It was super funny.

Before I go I have another funny thing to add. I watched Shrek in German. I didn't understand much, but I never realized that the donkey talked so fast! Jeeze... I will write more in the days to come.

I'm so glad you made it to Germany okay and that things are going so well for you. Is the dog nice-ish? That's good that you can understand some. I'm sure you'll learn quickly.

Yours,
Tannis
