Colours

This is going to be a really short one, but I'm hoping you'll leave lots of comments. I have a few questions for you. Ok.

1) When you listen to music do you see colours?
2) When you think about the days of the week does each day have a specific colour?
3) Are different subjects in school for you different colours?

Let me know! I would really like to know. We talked about this in my German class today. Since you'll share with me I'll tell you how it is with me.

1) I don't see colours when I listen to music.
2) I don't have different colours for the different days of the week.
3) Math is always a deep blue and Science is always green. Social Studies is Red and English is pink. Gym class is light blue. I have no idea why that's just how I think about it.

So please take 2 seconds and let me know!! And no I have no idea what it means if you do or you don't, but I'm super curious now!

Thanks in advance for satisfying my curiosity!

No, I don't see colours when I listen to music, I don't have colours for the different days of the week and I don't have colours for different classes.

However, in high school I associated each of my classes with the colour of its respective binder. However, the colour changed from year to year. Math was usually blue or yellow, science was usually red, and either English or Social was often purple.

Some people literally see colours when they hear music. Aparently this is because of a mix-up with the optic nerve and whatever one calles the nerve(s) for hearing. I learned this when I went to a concert featuring work by Messien (a 20th Century French composer) last term. He could see colours when he heard music. He described his 'Symphony for the End of Time' as being torents of orange and blue lava (if I remember correctly).

Anyway, I these are my answers to your questions and some unsolicited stuff on Messian as well. I would like to know what prompted you to ask said questions and if you were learning about this at school. If you were, what subject was it in?

Interesting questions.

1. Yes, I do see colors when I listen to music, but only if I'm relaxed and not attending to some other task. Heh Tannis, maybe instead of a "mix-up", it was really "genius"! TEE HEE

2. I've never spontaneously associated days of the week with color ... but now that I think of it ...

3. Yes, like Tannis, I associated each of my classes with a certain color and chose my binder/notebook accordingly. They also remained consistent through the years.

4. My question to you is, do you dream in color? And yes, I do.

Can't wait to hear Deneige's response.

I do not see colours when I listen to music. Never have...I don't have colours for different days of the week. However, I do have colours for school subjects. Math is always red, anything science is green, social is yellow and english is blue. I wonder why that is? Interesting post I would also like to know what prompted the questions in school.

Hmmm .. what are they teaching you there over in Germany? This has a Freudian feel to it!

1. I only see colours when I listen to music when I'm playing the music with Windows Media player and it's doing that psychedleic dance on the screen. Otherwise, no.

2. Days of the week? No I'm colour blind when it comes to all days but Thursday -- for some reason the colour purple comes to mind.

3. Social Studies is always red for me (my favorite colour and my favorite high school subject); math is blue, sciences are green (I always think of frogs -- dissecting and the like)

4. Dream in color -- occasionally.

Hello Marita!
I'm finally on your blog!!
I'll check it everyday in hopes of listening new and interesting stories from you.

Ok, so answers to your questions:
1) No, I don't see colours when I listen to music.
2) Yes, I think Sunday is orange. But I think that's about it though. I don't why I think sunday is orange??!
3) They are. I've always thought of History/Social as brown, Math as pink, Chemistry as royal blue, Biology as green and English as white.
I am certain I'll be able to contribute lots more now that I know about this blog!!! Gahhhh...I'm soo excited.

Hey! Thanx for the hugger! She ended up initially at a neighbours house a block down! Sketchy, but all is well! Teddi and I barely resisted eating all the food that day, lol!
As for the questions...
I've never seen music in color, althought I'm starting to wish I did. For the week days, Sunday is yellow (for the sun, woot) and Monday is red (haven't interpreted that one yet). That's all I know. For classes, Gym is baby blue (the color of the walls, I think, of my junior high gym), Math is red (maybe I like M's and red???), English is definatly green and Chem is orange and Physics is blue. Social hasn't decided yet. I think I might be relating text book color to each class?? Who knows?
Have a great week! I find your blog very encouraging so thank you for that!!!
